PX Electronics Static Frequency Converters are solid-state power conversion systems designed for long-term operation with relatively low routine maintenance. Planned inspection is still important, particularly for cooling systems, electrical connections and converters operating continuously or in demanding environments.

SFC maintenance is mainly concerned with keeping cooling air paths clear, confirming fan operation, inspecting filters where fitted, checking electrical connections and monitoring the converter for changes in normal operating behaviour. Output voltage and frequency should also be checked periodically to confirm the converter continues to operate within specification.

The correct maintenance interval depends on the installation. A converter operating in a clean, temperature-controlled electrical room may require substantially less cleaning than an SFC installed in a warm, dusty or high-duty environment. Low Routine Maintenance & Condition-Based Servicing
Static Frequency Converters contain no rotating power-generation equipment, so routine maintenance is primarily focused on cooling, cleanliness, electrical integrity and operating condition. Cooling fans and DC-link capacitors should be assessed according to condition, operating hours and environment rather than replaced at an arbitrary fixed interval.

Cooling, Airflow & Environmental Checks
Air intakes, filters, cooling fans and exhaust paths should remain clean and unrestricted. Dust, ambient temperature, humidity, operating hours and load duty all affect maintenance requirements, so inspection intervals should be shortened where conditions are more demanding.

Electrical Integrity & Output Performance
Input and output connections, protective earth connections, cable supports and protective devices should be inspected for heat, discolouration, deterioration or other changes in condition. Output voltage and frequency should also remain stable under the normal connected load.

Alarm, Protection & Fault Review
Repeated overtemperature, overvoltage, overcurrent, undervoltage, phase or other protection events should be investigated rather than repeatedly reset, particularly where accompanied by changes in load capability, airflow or output stability.

Maintenance Records & Service History
Recording alarms, electrical measurements, filter condition, fan condition, and work completed provides a useful baseline for identifying developing problems and planning future SFC maintenance.

Recommended Static Frequency Converter Maintenance Schedule

The following schedule provides a practical starting point for a typical indoor PX Static Frequency Converter. Actual intervals should be adjusted for the environment, operating hours, load duty and converter configuration.

Filter and Cooling Inspection Intervals

Filter inspection should reflect the actual operating environment rather than using the same interval for every installation.

The PX user manual also specifies that where an SFC is operating in a harsh environment, dust inspection and cleaning may need to take place every three months or more frequently.

Practical Cooling Checks

If an SFC appears to be running hotter than normal, the first checks are often straightforward:

Is the air intake clear?
Is the exhaust clear?
Are all cooling fans operating?
Are filters clean?
Are fan blades free from significant deposits?
Is sufficient clearance available around the enclosure?
Has the room temperature or ventilation changed?

Do not fit additional filter material over an SFC intake without confirming that the resulting airflow remains suitable.

Foreign Objects, Debris and Housekeeping

Keep the area around the SFC clear of packaging, tools, loose materials and other foreign objects that could obstruct ventilation or enter the enclosure. Particular attention should be paid to low-level air intakes, rear exhaust areas and cable-entry points.

During maintenance, check that no tools, fasteners, wire offcuts or other foreign material remain inside the enclosure before panels are refitted and the SFC is returned to service.
