The PXe-MS Series Marine & Shore Power Static Frequency Converters provide controlled three-phase voltage and frequency conversion for vessels, shipyards, dockside installations and marine electrical equipment operating between different regional power systems.

The range is intended for low-voltage marine applications where the available shore or facility supply does not match the voltage or frequency required by the vessel or connected equipment. Typical duties include converting 380V, 400V or 415V 50Hz supplies to 440V or 480V 60Hz, together with reverse 60Hz to 50Hz conversion for vessels and equipment operating internationally.

PXe-MS systems are configured around the actual shore supply, vessel electrical system, connected load and installation conditions. Ratings from 1kVA to 500kVA are available, with each system selected against the required continuous load and the starting characteristics of connected marine equipment.

Voltage transformation and static frequency conversion can be incorporated within the same system, providing a regulated AC output independent of normal variations in the incoming supply. Transformer isolation can also be included where galvanic separation between shore and vessel systems is required.

Marine 50Hz and 60Hz Frequency Conversion
The PXe-MS Series provides both 50Hz to 60Hz and 60Hz to 50Hz conversion for vessels and marine equipment operating from shore supplies with a different mains frequency.

Common Marine Voltage Configurations
Systems can be configured around common three-phase marine voltages including 380V, 400V, 415V, 440V and 480V. Voltage and frequency conversion can be carried out simultaneously where the vessel and shore supply differ.

Continuous Static Power Conversion
Solid-state IGBT PWM conversion provides a stable regulated AC output without the mechanical wear, vibration and maintenance associated with rotary frequency converters.

Marine Load and Starting Current Capability
PXe-MS converters are selected against the actual connected load. Motors, pumps, compressors, refrigeration plant and other equipment with significant starting current can be assessed as part of the system sizing process.

Shore, Shipyard and Vessel Applications
The range is suitable for fixed shore installations, shipyards, dry docks, marine workshops, vessel refit projects and onboard applications where the enclosure and installation arrangement are selected for the operating environment.

The PXe-MS Series is configured around the incoming supply available at the shore, shipyard or facility and the electrical system required by the vessel or connected marine equipment.

Three-phase input and output arrangements are normally used. Where the incoming and outgoing voltages differ, the complete frequency conversion system can incorporate voltage transformation.

Power Rating

PXe-MS Series systems are available from 1kVA to 500kVA.

The required converter capacity should be based on the maximum simultaneous load together with the starting characteristics of connected equipment. Marine systems frequently include motors, compressors, pumps, refrigeration systems and other loads which can draw substantially more current during start-up than during normal operation.

Where a vessel load schedule is available, PX Electronics can review it before recommending the appropriate converter rating.

The input is configured to suit the available shore, dockside or facility supply.

Isolation

Transformer isolation can be incorporated within the PXe-MS system to provide galvanic separation between the incoming supply and converted output.

The transformer arrangement can also be used where voltage transformation is required between the shore supply and vessel electrical system.

Installation

PXe-MS converters can be supplied for fixed installation within a shore-power plant room, dockside electrical area, shipyard, marine workshop or suitable vessel machinery space.

Confirm installation conditions when specifying the system. Pay particular attention to ambient temperature, ventilation, humidity, salt-laden air, and the required level of enclosure protection.
