PX Electronics Limited designs and manufactures static frequency converters and specialist power conversion equipment from its base in Reading, United Kingdom.
The company was established in 2022 to provide a more focused and practical approach to power conversion.
We wanted to build a business where customers could discuss their requirements directly with people who understand the equipment, rather than being limited to a standard catalogue specification.
That remains central to how we work today.
Some customers need a straightforward 50Hz, 60Hz or 400Hz static frequency converter. Others come to us with an unusual supply voltage, a difficult load, restricted installation space or a specification that has already been rejected by larger manufacturers.
In either case, we start by understanding the application.
Engineering Experience and Direct Technical Communication
PX Electronics brings together more than 40 years of combined experience across power electronics, aircraft maintenance, ground support equipment, electrical engineering, manufacturing, international procurement and technical sales.
Our engineering function is led by a senior power electronics engineer with more than 30 years of industry experience.
This background includes work within avionics maintenance, repair and overhaul facilities in the United States, technical sales and the development of power conversion equipment for customers in the UK and overseas.
When a project requires detailed technical input, customers can speak directly with our Chief Engineer. This is particularly valuable at the start of a project, when asking the right questions can prevent expensive problems later.
The engineering and commercial sides of the business work closely together. The aim is not only to provide the right equipment, but to keep the process clear and properly managed from the initial enquiry through to commissioning and after-sales support.

Specialist Power Conversion Capabilities
Static frequency converters are at the centre of our product range.
PX designs and manufactures systems for 50Hz, 60Hz and 400Hz applications, including single-phase and three-phase converters, aircraft ground power equipment and combined 400Hz and 28VDC systems.
We also supply related specialist power equipment for testing and industrial applications, including programmable AC power sources, regenerative loads, AC to DC converters, power analysers, electrical testing equipment and specialist power systems for non-standard applications.
Standard models are available, but many projects require changes to the electrical or mechanical design.
Depending on the application, this may include non-standard input or output voltages, single-phase to three-phase conversion, higher IP-rated enclosures, restricted dimensions or weight, remote monitoring, communications, project-specific connectors, interlocks, harmonic mitigation and application-specific protection and controls.
These requirements are reviewed as part of the complete system. They are not treated as isolated additions to a standard unit.

Bespoke Static Frequency Converters and Power Systems
Many PX projects begin with a specification that does not match an existing product. We do not try to make an unsuitable standard model fit the enquiry. Where a bespoke static frequency converter or specialist power system is needed, we develop the specification around the application.
Our engineering team reviews the requirement and asks for further information where needed. This may include details of the connected load, starting current, duty cycle, site supply, operating environment, installation restrictions, space or weight limits, communications requirements and any project-specific protection or control requirements.
Once the application is understood, we prepare a proposed specification for the customer.
There may be several revisions before the design is agreed. Available space or weight limits can affect the enclosure. The load may require a particular output configuration. Communications, connectors, protection or environmental conditions may also influence the final design.
The customer remains involved throughout this process.
Their knowledge of the application is important, and open communication usually allows both sides to reach the correct solution more quickly.

PX Electronics designs and manufactures its systems from its base in Reading, United Kingdom.
System design, specification control, assembly, testing and project delivery are managed by PX. We are supported by a selected group of approved suppliers for electrical components, fabricated enclosures and other specialist parts.
This gives us the flexibility to choose components and construction methods that suit the project while maintaining control of the finished system.
Our objective is to provide a practical, competitively priced alternative to larger static frequency converter manufacturers.
That does not mean reducing the specification to achieve a lower price. It means avoiding unnecessary cost while paying proper attention to reliability, protection, maintainability and long-term support.

Project Experience
PX Electronics supports standard, modified and fully bespoke power conversion projects for customers in the UK and overseas.
Compact Marine Defence Converter
A defence contractor required a bespoke 1kVA static frequency converter for installation on board a ship. The converter had to fit within tightly controlled dimensions and use an IP54-rated enclosure. Reinforced panels and project-specific fixing points were also required to suit the installation.
PX designed the case and internal arrangement around the available space, rather than requiring the customer to adapt the vessel around a standard enclosure.
250kVA Converter for Complex Test Loads
An international customer in Poland asked PX to develop a 250kVA static frequency converter for a complex electrical test facility.
The system needed to accommodate six load arrangements. These included separate outputs for high-leg delta loads and loads that did not require the high-leg configuration.
The final design had to account for the different electrical characteristics of the test equipment while remaining practical for regular operation by the customer’s engineering team.
High-Power Static Frequency Converters for the United States
PX designed and manufactured four static frequency converters for a US customer, with ratings ranging from 250kVA to 280kVA.
The project required components selected around US electrical and safety requirements, together with redesigned IP54 enclosures. Arc-flash considerations, internal separation and robust protection measures also influenced the mechanical and electrical design.
Because of the size and complexity of the equipment, PX remained closely involved throughout specification, manufacturing, testing, documentation and international delivery.
