PX Electronics Limited designs and manufactures static frequency converters and specialist power electronic conversion equipment from its base in Reading, United Kingdom.

The company was established in 2022 to provide a more focused and practical approach to power conversion.

We wanted to build a business where customers could discuss their requirements directly with people who understand the equipment, rather than being limited to a standard catalogue specification.

That remains central to how we work today.

Some customers need a straightforward 50Hz, 60Hz or 400Hz static frequency converter. Others come to us with an unusual supply voltage, a difficult load, restricted installation space or a specification that has already been rejected by larger manufacturers.

At PX Electronics, the application comes first. We take time to understand what the system needs to do, where it will operate and what the customer expects from it.

 Engineering is involved early, particularly where a standard specification is not enough. We work with the customer to agree the right solution and keep communication clear throughout the project.

 Our involvement continues through testing, commissioning and after-sales support. For me, that is the PX Approach: understand the application, engineer the right solution and remain accountable for the system we supply.

Our customers work across aviation and aerospace, defence, marine engineering and vessel maintenance, manufacturing, rail, research, utilities, electrical testing and other specialist industrial applications.

 Many of these projects involve non-standard voltages or frequencies, complex loads, restricted installation conditions or equipment that must operate reliably in critical environments. These are the applications where PX’s engineering-led approach and ability to develop both standard and bespoke solutions add the most value.

Engineering Support Beyond Delivery

Our responsibility does not end when the equipment is installed. Customers continue to have access to people who understand both the system supplied and the original application.

 After-sales support can include remote diagnostics, technical guidance, spare parts, site attendance and additional operator or maintenance training. When questions arise, our engineering team can work from the original project specification rather than treating the issue as a new enquiry.

Customers regularly comment on our fast response times and after-sales care. For projects where availability is particularly important, technical support can be provided seven days a week.

From Requirement to Operation

Getting the specification right at the start makes everything that follows easier. Our engineering team reviews the available supply, connected load, operating environment and installation constraints with the customer before the design is agreed.

 Once the requirement is clear, PX manages the project through specification, design, manufacture and testing. Where required, this can include Factory Acceptance Testing, customer-witnessed testing or independent third-party verification.

 For larger or more complex systems, we can also support installation, commissioning and operator training. The result is a joined-up process, with the technical understanding established at the beginning carried through to the equipment operating successfully on site.

Project Experience

PX Electronics supports standard, modified and fully bespoke power conversion projects for customers in the UK and overseas.

Compact Marine Defence Converter

A defence contractor required a bespoke 1kVA static frequency converter for installation on board a ship. The converter had to fit within tightly controlled dimensions and use an IP54-rated enclosure. Reinforced panels and project-specific fixing points were also required to suit the installation.

PX designed the case and internal arrangement around the available space, rather than requiring the customer to adapt the vessel around a standard enclosure.

250kVA Converter for Complex Test Loads

An international customer in Poland asked PX to develop a 250kVA static frequency converter for a complex electrical test facility.

The system needed to accommodate six load arrangements. These included separate outputs for high-leg delta loads and loads that did not require the high-leg configuration.

The final design had to account for the different electrical characteristics of the test equipment while remaining practical for regular operation by the customer’s engineering team.

High-Power Static Frequency Converters for the United States

PX designed and manufactured four static frequency converters for a US customer, with ratings ranging from 250kVA to 280kVA.

The project required components selected around US electrical and safety requirements, together with redesigned IP54 enclosures. Arc-flash considerations, internal separation and robust protection measures also influenced the mechanical and electrical design.

Because of the size and complexity of the equipment, PX remained closely involved throughout specification, manufacturing, testing, documentation and international delivery.
