PXe-M series Single Phase Input to Three Phase Output Static Frequency Converters
PXe-130000-M Series
PX Electronics PXe-130000-M Series Static Frequency Converters provide a stable, balanced three-phase AC output where only a single-phase power supply is available. The range combines phase, voltage and frequency conversion within one solid-state system, allowing compatible three-phase machinery and electrical equipment to operate without a direct three-phase utility connection.
Typical configurations convert 220V, 230V or 240V single-phase input into a regulated three-phase output at 50Hz or 60Hz. Output voltage can be matched to the connected equipment, including common 200V, 208V, 220V, 380V, 400V, 415V, 440V, 460V and 480V three-phase systems.
Technical Highlights for Single-Phase to Three-Phase Frequency Conversion
Three-Phase Power from Single-Phase Mains
Provides a regulated three-phase AC output where a three-phase utility supply is unavailable, impractical or costly to install.
Phase, Voltage & Frequency Conversion
Converts the incoming single-phase supply to a balanced three-phase output while also matching the voltage and frequency required by the connected equipment.
Balanced Three-Phase Output for Complete Equipment
Actively generates all three output phases with controlled phase separation and stable sine-wave output, making the PXe-M Series suitable for complete machines containing motors, transformers, heaters, control circuits and electronic power supplies.
IGBT PWM Conversion with Transformer Isolation
Solid-state AC-DC-AC conversion provides controlled output voltage and frequency, while integrated transformer isolation provides electrical separation between the incoming single-phase supply and the connected three-phase load.
Input Assessment, Monitoring & Protection
Converter selection considers the available single-phase supply, protective device, cable capacity and load starting demand. Front-panel metering provides voltage, current, frequency and system status, with remote communication and additional monitoring options available.
Product Information
PXe-130000-M Series Configurations
PXe-M Series Static Frequency Converters can be configured around the available single-phase input, required three-phase output voltage, output frequency and connected load.
The range covers ratings from 1kVA to 60kVA. Output configurations can be supplied as three-phase three-wire or three-phase four-wire with neutral. Fixed 50Hz and 60Hz outputs are standard requirements, with selected 400Hz configurations available following technical review.
Each converter uses solid-state IGBT PWM conversion with sine-wave AC output and transformer isolation. Front-panel metering and built-in protection provide local operating information, while optional communication interfaces support integration with remote control or monitoring systems.
Smaller units can be supplied in rack-mounted or compact enclosures. Higher-rated systems are normally floor-standing, with mobile bases and increased enclosure protection available where required.

The output-current figures are based on the stated kVA rating at 400V three-phase output. Dimensions and weights are confirmed at quotation because they depend on the input current, transformer arrangement, enclosure and selected options.
The larger models require a dedicated high-current single-phase supply. At 230V, a 60kVA load represents approximately 261A before converter losses are included.
PXe-130000-M Series Order Codes
A product order code can be derived from the input supply, output requirement, converter rating, enclosure and control method.
The generic model format is:
PXe-130000-M
The first digit identifies single-phase input, the second identifies three-phase output, and the final three digits identify the converter capacity.
For example, a 20kVA unit with 230V single-phase 50Hz input and 400V three-phase 60Hz output would use the base model:
PXe-130020-M
The complete order code format is:
PXe-130020-M-[INPUT]-[OUTPUT]-[RATING]-[ENCLOSURE]-[CONTROL]
Example:
PXe-130020-M-1P230V50-3P400V60N-20KVA-IP22-MC
This represents:
(PXe-130020-M) – PX Electronics 20kVA M Series SFC

Yes. The PXe-M Series can be configured to convert 230V single-phase input into a regulated 400V three-phase output.
The system generates all three output phases and provides the required voltage through its inverter and transformer arrangement.
Not from a typical domestic or light-commercial single-phase service.
At 230V, 60kVA represents approximately 261A before converter losses. A dedicated high-current single-phase connection, suitable protective equipment and correctly sized cabling would be required.
Only the smallest ratings and loads may be suitable for a standard 13A outlet.
Most PXe-M Series converters require a dedicated circuit, protective device, isolator and industrial connection sized for the maximum input current.
Yes. The range can convert a single-phase 50Hz input into a three-phase 60Hz output.
It can also be configured for single-phase 60Hz input to three-phase 50Hz output.
Yes, provided the converter is selected for the complete machine load.
The assessment should include motors, transformers, heaters, electronic supplies, control circuits and starting current, rather than relying only on the main motor rating.
Yes. The output can be configured as three-phase three-wire or three-phase four-wire with neutral.
The expected phase imbalance, phase-to-neutral loads and neutral current should be stated when requesting a quotation.
Yes, but the converter must be sized for the starting current and its duration.
Direct-on-line motors and compressors can draw several times their normal running current. Soft starters or controlled starting can reduce the required peak capacity.
No. Increasing the voltage does not create additional electrical capacity.
The available output remains limited by the power and current that can be drawn from the single-phase input, together with converter losses.
Selected M Series configurations can provide three-phase 400Hz output. For dedicated aviation and avionics applications, the PX Electronics 400Hz SFC range may be the more appropriate starting point.
A bypass can only continue supplying the load where an alternative three-phase source with the correct voltage, frequency and capacity is available.
A single-phase mains source cannot be connected directly to the three-phase load as a functional bypass.
A single-phase to three-phase Static Frequency Converter takes an available single-phase AC supply and generates a regulated three-phase AC output.
The system can also change the output voltage and frequency to match the connected equipment.
A VFD is primarily intended to control the speed and torque of a compatible motor. Its PWM output is normally connected directly to that motor.
The PXe-M Series provides a regulated three-phase AC supply. It can therefore support suitable complete machinery containing motors, transformers, control circuits, heaters and electronic power supplies.
The PXe-M Series is available up to 60kVA.
Higher ratings are not offered with single-phase input because the required input current becomes impractical for most low-voltage single-phase installations.
