PXe-AC-DC Series DC Output Static Converters
PXe-1-60-0000-AC-DC
PX Electronics PXe-AC-DC Series static power converters convert an available single-phase or three-phase AC supply into controlled DC output. Systems can be configured for low-voltage high-current duties, higher-voltage DC systems and industrial applications requiring regulated voltage or current.
The range uses PWM switching technology and supports constant-voltage and constant-current operation. Output voltage, current and power rating are selected around the connected equipment, test requirement and available AC input supply.
Standard configurations cover outputs from low-voltage high-current supplies through to DC voltages of 1200V and higher-power systems up to 480kW. A defined example is the PXe-AC-DC-6-5000, providing adjustable output from 0 to 6V DC and 0 to 5000A, with a 30kW rating.

High-Current Installation Considerations
For low-voltage high-current systems, the complete output circuit must be considered. Cable resistance, busbar resistance, contact resistance and connection quality can materially reduce the voltage available at the load.
PX will normally review:
- Required voltage at the equipment
- Continuous and peak current
- Output cable length
- Cable or busbar cross-section
- Permitted voltage drop
- Terminal and connector arrangement
- Duty cycle
- Cooling requirement
- Load isolation
- Protective bonding and earthing
Remote sensing may be considered where accurate voltage is required at the load rather than only at the converter terminals, subject to the selected design.
Order Codes:
A product order code can be derived from the main ordering information using the structure below:
Generic order code is based on this format: PXe-1-28-0003-AC-DC, indicating 1ph-input 28Vdc-output and 3kVA
For example a 1 phase in 50Hz, 28Vdc phase out, 3kVA, = PXe-1-28-0003
PXe-1-28-0000-AC-DC-[INPUT]-[OUTPUT1]-[OUTPUT2]-[RATING]-[ENCLOSURE]-[CONTROL]
PXe-1-28-0003-AC-DC-[1P230V50]-[28VDC]-[3KVA]-[IP22]-[RS232]
This would represent:
(PXE-1-28-0003-AC-DC) – PX Electronics AC-DC Converter
(1P230V50) – 1 phase, 230VL-L, 50Hz input
(28VDC) – 28Vdc output
(3KVA) – 3kVA rating
(IP22) – IP22 enclosure
(RS232) – Control
For a manually controlled standard enclosure version, the part number may look like this:
PXe-1-28-0003-AC-DC-1P230V50-28Vdc-3kVA-IP22-RS232
| Model | Capacity | Rated Current | Input | Output | Dimensions | Weight |

Potentially, but the charging requirements must be reviewed carefully.
Battery chemistry, maximum charging voltage, current profile, temperature monitoring, isolation and charge termination must all be defined. A general industrial DC converter should not automatically be treated as a complete battery charger.
PX Electronics will require the available AC input, required DC voltage and current, continuous power, load type, duty cycle, ripple and regulation requirements, control method, communications, output-cable arrangement and required test documentation.
An AC-to-DC static converter takes an AC mains input and produces regulated DC voltage and current.
Unlike an AC-output Static Frequency Converter, the DC output has no operating frequency.
In constant-voltage mode, the converter maintains the selected voltage while current changes with the load.
In constant-current mode, the converter maintains the selected current while output voltage changes within the available range.
The series is used for industrial DC power, product testing, current injection, DC motor testing, component ageing, high-current testing and specialist low-voltage or high-voltage DC applications.
Protection includes overvoltage, overcurrent, overtemperature and short-circuit protection.
Adjustable voltage and current limits can also be used to restrict the permitted output.
